Travel Tips:
- Tours and outdoor activities have seasonal limitations.
- To avoid crowds, the best time to visit is between November and February.
- Plan ahead for lodging, camping, backcountry permits, mule trips and other activities.
- Permits are required for overnight hiking and camping outside designated areas. Permits are limited and can be purchased, up to four months in advance, from the Backcountry Information Center.
- In order to fish in the park, a license will need to be purchased at the Canyon Village Marketplace. The best time to fish is in the fall and winter.

Special Events:
Between August and November, giant sea and bay turtles lay about 90 to 120 eggs on the beach. They hatch approximately 45 to 60 days later. Between July and January, about 30,000 sea turtles come to La Flor National park (about 45 min. south) to lay their eggs.

Travel Tips:
- Immunization shots are recommended.
- There is a 25lb luggage limit per person, so bring only what you need (laundry services are provided).
- When traveling outside the resort, most businesses will except US dollars.
- Although January through the first part of April is the hottest time of the year, the water is a little chiller due to the Humboldt Current.
- May through December the water is the warmest, and the forest is green and tropical.
- It is very dry from December – May, which means tourism is high (the trees also loose there leaves).
- The hospital is about 35 minutes away from the lodge (clinic 20 min.)

- There is a weight restriction of 44 lbs. for luggage, so bring only what you need.
- Although weather is good all year round, the slow season for tourism is in September and October, so rates will be lower.
- The water is a little colder and the weather at sea level is dryer from June through December due to Southern trade winds. The sea life is also a lot more active during this time of year.
