To answer this question, you really have to ask yourself how you define “get by”. Now, instead of beating around the bush, we’ll just come out and say it: weddings are expensive, and that’s not going to change anytime soon. So, cutting anywhere you can is always a good idea. And when it comes to the DJ… actually you may want to skip to the next expense on the list. If only from an emcee standpoint, we highly recommend hiring a DJ. Having a professional there to manage the flow of events, make announcements and of course play a custom mix of music for your guests is really irreplaceable. Sure you can have Uncle Jim make some announcements and put your younger cousin Billy in charge of playing/skipping to other songs during the dancing part of the evening, but is that really the kind of wedding you want? When it’s someone’s first time doing these kinds of things, it’s likely that you’re in for a choppy wedding. And since you are probably planning on getting married once, it’s more than likely not worth the risk. In the end, you could probably “get by” without a DJ, but cutting the champagne and rolls might be a better way to save a little dough.
